Very curious that only 4 days of potato had such a long lasting effect. John (https://theheartattackdiet.substack.com/p/ex150ish-fruit-and-chips) had a similar thing recently, he started eating a somewhat significant amount of "chips" (=fries, he's English) and has kept losing weight.

Really seems to suggest SM TM are right; there's some magic in potatoes and you just need to stock up on it enough, not go full on mono diet. And it sticks around for a while.

I neglected to mention that about 3-5 days after having finished the potato diet, my temperature hit 98.6°F for what I think is the first time ever.

So clearly something was happening metabolically. I’ve never seen anything above 98.0 on any of the other diets. (Though I’ve only been regularly measuring for about the past 6 or 7 months)

Nice :) 98.6°F is pretty normal for my throughout the day. Not sure why .6 exactly, maybe that's just what all thermometer chips read haha.

It eventually flattens out tho, at least in my case. But I haven't been on a real potato diet since ~nov 2024. And my first attempt on it I think I rebounded.

I have a bunch of guesses, it might be a metabolic reset, the SFA production or a bunch of other causes. I'd be curious what his blood sugar is with a CGM when he got lightheaded if he tried the diet again.

Thanks for the comments! I wish I had the CGM data as well. I’ll be sure to run a mini potato trial next time I link up a CGM

Potatoes are also relatively low in methionine (per protein) compared to some other foods I've checked.

Claude tells me that “Methionine restriction is one of the most potent dietary inducers of FGF21 expression.”

Take that, honey diet! 😆

Honey has nearly 0 methionine :)

I think that is most plant sources of protein, or anything that is not a muscle meat. I also wrote a guesses as to why it works article last year: https://metrep.substack.com/p/my-guess-why-potatoes-creates-weight

Interestingly, I followed Mac and ate 3 eggs per day (poached, so as to not add fat). That would seem to add plenty of methionine.
